Very Easy Gingerbread House Recipe

Gingerbread houses are a staple for the holiday season. Not only are they fun to make, they are a great way to get in the festive spirit. If you want to make a gingerbread house but don’t have a lot of time, this very easy gingerbread house recipe is perfect for you.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • Royal icing for decorating (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet.

2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, molasses, and baking powder. Reduce heat to low and stir in the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt. Gradually stir in the hot water until the mixture is smooth.

3. Divide the dough into four equal parts. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each piece of dough until it is about 1/4 inch thick. Cut out the pieces of the gingerbread house according to the template. Place the pieces on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool completely before assembling.

4. To assemble the gingerbread house, use a bit of royal icing to glue the walls and roof together. Let the icing dry completely before decorating.

5. Decorate the house with royal icing, candy, and other festive decorations. Enjoy!
